It's the start of a new season! by Sean K.

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

The girls volleyball season has officially begun. Students are excited about the new season. With most of the starters from last year having graduated or left the school the team has had to rebuild and has seen a lot of young students joining. This year, the girls volleyball team coach has also changed. Coach Hartje played volleyball throughout middle and high school.

She has experience playing

outside hitter and setter.

According to coach Hartje, she is hoping to make room for growing and developing for the team, and success rebuilding the team. Her main focus is to get some of the girls consistently serving overhand serves. More than 90% of the team are only able to serve underhand serves.

During the first official practice, Coach Hartje split the players into different groups to work on different skills such as approaching, hitting, and receiving practices went well.

“We have a variety of skill levels and it's best to train each group at an appropriate level so that they are each challenged," she said.

"However, one thing that could go better is making sure the whole team knows the entire plan for practice before we begin so that we spend less time explaining and more time practicing."

Coach Hartje made it clear that there is not a lot of time for the practice, therefore she expects every player to be prepared and know what they will be doing for each training session.

With the first game in less than two weeks, at home against ICSP, will the girls be prepared before their first game? Will some of the girls be able to overhand serve by the end of the season? Who would become starters?

Stay tuned for more!
