ICSU sock drive a blessing - Read all about it! By Amy P.

Baraka library is a place for women and children with the goal to help them better survive in society. Baraka meaning, "blessing," in Arabic began in July 2018 with the first Baraka Library being set up in Itaewon, Yongsan-Gu.

Baraka library not only provides English courses but also offers physical education, music class and art class to women and children. Their core values are to be welcoming and respectful.

ICSU librarian Mrs Kim is hosting a sock drive for the Baraka Library.

Sock drives are a collection of gifts for people who go to Baraka Library. Baraka Library has people all around the world, but mainly Afghanis. People flee from their own country and they receive humanitarian state visas allowing them to temporarily stay in Korea. The Korean government provides their children with education in middle school. “I went out with two Afghani sisters," Mrs Kim said. "They are the first two people who got into universities from Baraka library. I called them the first fruits of the Baraka Library, and I am so happy for them.

"I wanted to celebrate their admission, and while they were going, they stopped and searched for socks. Socks are daily items, so ICSU wants to provide them with some necessities. Socks will be very beneficial for their families.”
