Ready, Set, Go! By Sean K.

Kaiac Volleyball : Ready for the Kick off

September 7th, ICSU volleyball games have finally kicked off. After three weeks of preparation, we were finally ready for our first game. After two years through Covid restrictions, spectators are finally allowed to come to the home games and cheer and watched us play ICSP chanting, "let's go Eagles, let's go."

Boys are ready to continue their winning streak after finishing undefeated in the 2021-2022 season. The head coach for the boys volleyball team, Isaac Jeong was excited for several reasons.

“It was my first game with the varsity boys as a head coach.” said Coach Jeong, “ It was my first time hosting a match with another school as a new Athletic Director. I just love watching my players playing against other schools.”

The captain for the Boys Volleyball team John Yoon said, “Even though this game was on a school day, I was thinking about the game all day; before the game, I felt nervous because it was a new team, especially because many people had left the team from last year, and I was worried for the new players, mainly because they were young and inexperienced.”

Meanwhile, the girls are ready. Coach Hartje was excited about how her team performed. “The first game of the season is always such a fun event, especially since this was the first time we have been together for a home game since COVID started!” she said.

The captain for the Girls Volleyball team Jane Lim said, “before the game I felt quite nervous. I wasn't as nervous to the point of shaking, but was worried about what the outcome might be. As much as it was our first game of the season, it was a home game so winning was super important for me.”

Girls Volleyball : Fight till the End

ICSU Girls Volleyball led to a stunning performance! The team started the game by winning the cliffhanger first set of the game 25-21. ICSU has given their second set to ICSP. However, the 2nd set was Coach Hartje’s favorite moment of the game.

“We went from losing 22-10 to 24-21. We took the other team from a 12 point lead to a 3 point lead. The ability to perform under pressure when the other team has such a huge lead is incredible! Our girls pushed through the mental barrier and fought during that set.”

The girls fought a great battle during the third set, but they lost their third set 25-18. Even though they were down by a set, they were still on their game. During the 4th set, the girls dominated the other team at the beginning of the set, and also led the set by winning the fourth 25-22.

Fifth set began with a heart stopper set. Before it reached 10 points, ICSU were leading by two points. As the points were getting closer to 15, it finally reached 14-11 ICSU leading. Jane Lim was at the serving line, to attempt the team to get the last point.

Jane Lim said, “ I was the last server and everyone was watching me and depending on me which was very overwhelming,” she continues, “But my team managed to get through and we won the last point, leading us into an automatic win.” The girls won the fifth set 15-11. During the last rally, both teams had 13 plays to finish the rally.
