Running for a good cause! By Amy P.

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

Going to college can be a stressful time for many students especially those who have been dealt a cruel hand and have been left orphans, however, there is still love and caring in this world, thanks to the Oak Tree Project.

The Oak Tree Project was formed in 2013 to support Korean orphans aspiring to go to college. So far 77 students have received a scholarship through Oak Tree Project and 37 students have graduated through the program. Although their lives have been rooted in the storms of rejection and struggle, through the love and support of the program the students are able to rise up above the storms as mighty oak trees, unshakable in their identity.

ICSU has participated in the charity walk in Fall 2020, and after two years, our community is joining again. This year's Oak Tree Run will take place on Sunday, November 13 at 9:00am at the Olympic Park Peace Plaza, Seoul.

Sean, a junior athlete at ICSU, has participated in the Oak Tree Run. “I’ve done it twice before,” he said. “I initially joined the Oak Tree Run to fill up my community service hours, however, I had a change of heart when I learnt about it and I wanted to help raise money.” Sean likes to run and said it was easy for him to earn his hours and to help the community with his running skills.

The Oak Tree project is worth four hours of community service and costs 40,000 Won to register. For more information visit https://oaktreeproject.give.asia/campaign/otr2022#/
